The helium regulator (part number B42399-3) controls the flow of gaseous helium in high performance solid rocket motor thrust vector actuation (TVA) systems. This allows the motor
to pivot, and thereby, control the orientation of the launch vehicle while in flight. It is qualified
for use on the GEM 60, which is a graphite epoxy motor that supplies extra boost to the
Delta IV launch vehicle.
Features:
This regulator provides accurate pressure regulation with low start-up transients in a small,
lightweight package. The design has been optimized by the use of statistical experimental
design techniques to yield consistent performance at a low cost.
The regulator incorporates several features which enhance its reliability. High pressure
dynamic seals have been eliminated. The seat material is Vespel, which has excellent sealing
characteristics and repeatable seating performance. As a result, the regulator can tolerate
over 20,000 operating cycles including multiple slam starts.
Another feature is the "plug in" cartridge style interface, which allows the regulator to be
adapted into other applications.
