Atmospheric Revitalization & Pressure Control
System (ARPCS)
- Oxygen to the emergency breathing subsystem and ASC subsystem
- Nitrogen for pressurization of the potable and waste water tanks
|
Application:
Carleton designed and developed the ARPCS for the Space Shuttle Orbiter. It
provides a two-gas atmosphere of nitrogen and oxygen to the crew compartment
and habitable payload modules.
Features:
The ARPCS consists of a nitrogen/oxygen control panel, nitrogen/oxygen supply
panel, oxygen partial pressure sensors, cabin positive pressure relief valves,
cabin negative pressure relief valves, and cabin pressure bleed valves. Complementing
the ARPCS are the Airlock Support Components (ASC), which consist of a pressure
gage, equalization valve, depressurization valve, oxygen supply valve, and isolation
valve.
